I don't really want a pair, I just want to know why everyone hates them. While I probably wouldn't choose to wear them, they don't bother me either way.

Def not gay there are some races where its just cold enough to wear long sleeves but not cold enough to wear under armor. I have a pair and they have been very helpful.

I agree. great for that strange temperature range where maybe its wet and rainy and you have gloves and maybe your torso isn't cold but the wrist/arm region is. A guy on my team actually has half a shirt that he torn off the bottom part of the torso so all it has is shoulders and arms and he uses it for the same conditions you would arm warmers...its pretty funny to see really.

They are not gay because right side arm warmers don't have sex with other right side arm warmers.

Running sleeves aren't gay, but wearing half tights under your shorts is.

You should have your posting privileges removed for the v-neck.

And this should answer the OP's question.

I'd probably never wear them. If I found myself in a race where I might need them, I'd just move farther south.

They're called compression shorts. Some guys wear them because they don't like there junk flopping around while they race. But then some other guys don't need them, isn't that right Tommy T?

We just got our team some as part of a Nationals package from ASICS. I wanted to try them, but didn't really know what the team would think of them. As far as me, I've worn them twice. I think they are great. Very comfortable and practical.

That's true, usually the compression shorts are enough for me. Most of my running shorts have linings in them though, I would suggest buying some of those.

What does that have to do with anything? In my personal experience, I have had chaffage wearing half tights after a half, so after an ultra marathon I think I would have burned a hole in my sack.

Arm warmers have been used by cyclists forever. Runners started using them when all the wangs in the Olympic trials wore them.

They're useful. Sometimes it's not warm enough to just wear a singlet (in a race) but too warm for a long sleeve.

Definitely not gay.

Gay = tattoo sleeves

Anyone who points out how dumb some offensive words are with humor is totally lame. I completely agree with you, Hoya should definitely take away your posting privileges.

The people who designed cycling clothing are smart. They designed jerseys with pockets to store things. They designed lightweight windproof outerlayers with zippers, so you are shielded from cold breezes, but you can also zip up and down to regulate body heat when you're climbing and descending. They designed extra layers that you can easily put on and take off such as arm warmers and knee warmers, so if you start a long ride in the cool morning, you can take off the arm warmers and knee warmers and pack them away in the warmer afternoon weather. Plus, with a pair of arm warmers, you expand your jersey collection by turning all your short-sleeved jerseys into long-sleeved jerseys. The same is true with a pair of knee warmers and leg warmers. Most of my best running clothing is actually cycling clothing.

My arm warmers have gotten a lot of use this year on the bike and after XC practice. My arm warmers helped me ride a brisk 64 miles this afternoon. It was too cold to go short sleeved, but too warm to go with my long sleeve jerseys made of heavier fabric. Plus, I ride my bike to and from XC practice and don't have much extra cargo space to pack extra clothes. The arm warmers pack nicely, so I throw them on after runs when I'm waiting for the slower guys to finish. They're also nice to have when you're corraled for several minutes before a big race and can't move around to stay warm. You can easily take them off and stash them after the race starts, OR you could also make disposable arm warmers by taking your old long-sleeved racing shirts, cutting off the sleeves, and sewing elastic inside the top end. You wont feel bad about tossing the makeshift arm warmers on the side of the road since they didn't cost you a fortune like the arm warmers you'd get at a running store. The only downside to arm warmers is that many runners have such skinny arms that there's nothing to hold them in place.

I honestly think that arm warmers look pretty douchey, but I have never tried them out and probably never will. But it looks as if a lot of very good runners wear them.

I raced in them in Boise at Nike regionals and I thought they were great. They're good for racing in if you have to wear a specific singlet and can't wear a long sleeve shirt instead, not to mention they are slightly cooler than a long sleeve if that's what you need and they're comfy.
