I am curious what everyone uses for post workouts. I would really like to hear from people that have used multiple things and what has worked best. I have currently just been drinking chocolate milk. I am debating to switching to accelerade, or endurox r4, or even recoverite by hammer. I would really appreciate the help.

Usually a bowl of whole grain cereal with skim milk. Plus--my favorite-- 1/3 grape juice, 2/3 water. Like a sports drink, only better and cheaper.

If I haven't eaten lunch yet, I'll sometimes have a peanut butter (sometime w/ jelly) sandwich. Or whatever else happens to be around the house.

Eat some whole grain carbs, some milk or chocolate milk. I highly recommend the grape juice/water mix. Very simply, inexpensive, and you can feel like your sticking it to the recovery drink companies.

Chewy sprees and leftover Halloween candy. Sometimes ice cream or freeze pops when it is hot out.

Cereal, Hershey's bars and milk are also very good. After a long run, basically anything from the pantry or fridge that fits in my mouth.

m&m's of any variety go down easy post run as well. Try mixing the pretzel ones with the peanut butter ones just for fun. Microwave the regular ones for 30s for a special treat.

I'd really be wary of the commerical "recovery" products. Chocolate milk will work just as well, and the other suggestions of grape juice with water sound pretty good. You'll save lots of money in the long run, and your post-recovery will be just the same. The only benefit a commerical product over cheaper home recipies would give you would be psychological. For mortals like you and me, there's really no difference. If we're talking about elite athletes it might be different, but if I were you I'd stick to good old chocolate milk.

Endurox r4 is really great! I mainly use it for longer/long runs and on hard workouts so that it can last me much longer..it's expensive! However, you can actually feel the difference between other sports drinks and the best recovery drink I've had. I'd recommend it. Buy from Amazon.

My coach suggested chocolate milk before, so before I knew about Endurox I drank that post long runs.

Water.  Fruit (usually a banana and/or apple).  Heroin.  Peanut butter on some bread.  Nothing huge.
