I dont know if this happened recently or if its been like it for a while but why is it that Monday's are now the start of the week instead of where most people consider it sunday. Is there any preferences option where you could make it into a week starting on sunday?

i think that some cultures use Monday as the beginning of the week while others use Sunday

You can change it. Go to the Edit Profile page. It's under the Profile tab. You'll see it towards the bottom of the page.
