I had them really bad in track last Spring. I took 2 full weeks off after track, and when I started training again they felt great. Two weeks does put you completely out of shape, but it is worth it for them to fully heal.

Aren't you supposed to bathe in tomato juice to get rid of it?

Shin splints are you body's natural way of saying 1 of 4 things, 1)You're shoes are the wrong category of support for your stride, 2) You're shoes are dead and need to be replaced (they aren't absorbing the stress from impact like when they were fresh), 3)You have managed to work your body harder than it wanted and have achieved shin pain (take time off let it heal, usually the max is 2 weeks), or 4) You are the unlucky one with really week shins in which there are really 2 stretches you can do in order to build up the strength of your shin muscles. They are a harder muscle to isolate but the stretches are easy.

Hello. I am this site's natural way of saying all of these 4 things. 1) Learn the difference between your and you're. 2) Your body doesn't know what kind of shoes you're wearing. 3) What kind of p***y takes time off for shin splints? 4) Learn the difference between week and weak. Also, you can't strengthen a muscle with stretching.

Okay I have a serious question regarding shin splints. When I was in HS everyone would just say "keep running, they will go away." Then the coaches would make us do 50m of heel walks and 50 of toe walks x 2. I have never had shin splints that didn't go away if I just kept running and doing the heel and toe walks. Is this advice still given or have times changed that much?

I've dealt with shin splints for a while now.

zensah compression leg sleeves reallllllllly help with these, both while running and recovering.. a bit pricey at 40 dollars.. but i'd say it's totally worth not taking the time off.

plus they just feel awesome to run in and help a ton on recovery.
