Cross country. Courses are more interesting, more people in the races, plus I'm all endurance, no speed so I hate short races.

XC has its good side but why focus on endurance in XC? You can always run the 5 and/or 10 on the track as well (of course that wouldn't be that much fun for us middle distance runners either.)

...Track...

And a note to your "Real runner = XC runner" statement. I'm shocked! I'm no therapist but I think you need to see someone.

Any football player or soccer reject can join track... they'll take anyone. But Cross Country is for the dedicated PURE runner.
XC is my lifeboat on the ocean of athleticism!!! Meanwhile, the sea of confusion is bounded by a rubberized surface.

PS, my therapist says RUN MORE MILES.

I am all for track, there is an event for every type of runner! Someone who isnt stellar at 5k or an 8k can shine come winter/spring on the circle, and it can be like a handicap, someone with alittle speed can race someone in a shorter race so they are equally matched, like speed 800, distance 800.

Track because it is the ultimate equalizer. Everything measured out exactly the same for everyone. Nothing to hide behind, no excuses. Fastest athlete wins period.

XC - the course was long or short or hilly or had too much pavement on it, I got elbowed, boxed in, tripped, took a wrong turn cuz I can't tell red from yellow, blah blah blah.

Track... definitely.

Wow, everyone makes such good arguments. Is there a runner who's in the same upper pretile in a short distance on the track as in a cross country race? I think this is the reason we're so divided. All I know is I can't run a 100 or 200 to save my lif, so I'm for Cross Country.

Def gotta go with track on this one. Sure, cross country meets are much shorter, but how fun is it to run an 800, a 5k, and a 4x4 in the same day? Good times, that's for sure. You guys have your grass, I'll take the rubberized surface.

Olde English XC. You don't know the exact distance, no prizes at the end. Just you and the trail. It's not the endurance aspect of cross-country that should make it better, because whether it's xc or track you're still running. It's the loneliness, it's the team, it's the cold, it's the heat. Anyone can go out and run on a track. It takes a determined athlete to make it through an xc race.

I modified this to fit the situation, but,

"Anyone can run 800 meters. . . . It's the next 4200, 7200 or 9200 that count!"

At my school track is more respected than cross, but my cross country coach puts so much effort into us where i hate 2 say it, but i look forward to cross country practice. Like before meets we have pasta dinners at someone's house. Also, on the midnight before the season starts we have a midnight run and afterwards, he makes us pancakes and sausage. But the track coach doesnt give a s**t about us. I just feel like im wanted more at xc rather than track.

I love cross country because it is so team oriented... my high school cross country team had close to 50 people but we felt like a close family, everyone knew each other's name... I think a lot of this comes from the fact that everyone is running the same race. Everyone understands each other. You don't have the sprinters who think you're crazy for running anything over a 400, you don't have the distance runners who think you're crazy for sprinting... anything, all you have is distance guys who understand we're all crazy for the same reasons, and it makes team bonding so easy. That being said, track is the ultimate equalizer. The only variable in track is what lane you run in. In cross country, there's footing issues, hill issues, weird turns, mud, stuff you just don't have to deal with during track. With track, it's legit. It's 100% legit. Everyone runs exactly the same thing. So if I were asked what I'd rather run, XC or track, I'd say track. If I were asked whether I'd like to be on the XC team or the track team, I'd say the XC team.

Track is much better because you always know where you are in the race and how much more you have to run. It really helps with pacing unlike in XC where it's hard to judge where you are.

First - whatever racing season it is, that's the one i love the most.
Second - if i had to choose, it would be track. Track is much more difficult than XC. XC has downhills, hillcrests, corners, and other spots where you can 'take a break' if you need to. You can go into a wooded section and hide from the crowd.

Track is my favorite because there's no hiding, it's unrelenting, you're under a spotlight - the intensity is unmatched. You have to focus perfectly and you'll hurt ridiculously if you do, and the best part is - you know it's coming. Track doesn't lie - a certain amount of meters, a watch and your place.

Third - i'm not a team guy. i run by myself, for myself and track can have less of a team aspect to it. However, the beauty of track is that it brings together different types of people and hopefully everybody gains from it. i like throwers and sprinters and track trips were always fun from a social standpoint. XC is just a bunch of runner dorks being dorks together and not something i enjoy.

Tough to say. Depends on what mood I'm in as to which is my favorite.

I like cross-country because of the closeness of the team, which isn't something you get in track, and the races are more fun, because you're running all over the place, up and down hills, through the mud and on all sorts of terrain. They're something to enjoy for their toughness rather than their speed and consistency.

I like track races better than anything, though. Track is all about speed. No hills, turns or potholes to mess you up, just one nicely even and flat circle to focus on going as fast as you possibly can for 1500 meters or 5000 meters. Nothing beats a good track race.

ive had the experience in both football and soccer(11 years) also sports such as xc and track, "what im currently in", baseball, basketball, volleyball and tennis. I have been threw them all...and i have to say TRACK SUCKS, cold, annoying 2 many circles. XC is wonderful, new surroundings, tons of people, so much HEART. SO in all conclusion XC is the best, track is 2 stay in shape, thats about it! :/

I got nothing against track, but I gotta go with XC.
XC is just more spontaneous and fresh each time than track, thanks to the varying courses. Having to adapt to each course every race is both challenging and exhilarating.

Let's not hate on each other's sport, track and XC runners....

I completely agree. Unless you're a 400 meter or less runner, we really play into both XC and track. I don't especially like all the circling involved in track, and I really like racing on the different terrains and courses offered by XC, but lets get serious. We may prefer one over the other, but in the end, we love both and put all our effort into whatever season it happens to be.

cross-country really does have more heart and soul put into it, it's more about determination, it takes more mental strength to be able to give it your all that last 200 meters after battling it out with another competitor the whole race. your have to be able to tell yourself that you can get through it all and just push your body to the limit.

That's a pretty bold statement there - "cross-country really does have more heart and soul put into it..." - I wouldn't say that. There are many XC running that can be done at a jog too. A race is a race and if you're willing to give it your all then any race will wipe you out.

there is nothing better than finishing a race covered in the course. XC is the purest harbor to the true spirit of the runner. Quentin Cassidy may have dubbed it the sport for animals, and as so i welcome the challenge of being more beast than man, XC gives the opportunity to shed outer hindrances and race through the natural surroundings like a banchee... XC!!!

I believe that I like Cross better than track for the team aspect. I do love my outdoor track when the conditions are right, but with XC its all about grinding it out, i have fun in almost any XC race be it fair, rainy, or snowy. Where as with track when your waiting around for your race in the cold it freaking blows!
Go XC!!

I don't know about anybody else, but I love xc until I'm burnt out and want nothing more than track. Then I love track, until I'm burnt out on it and I want xc. They both require determination and hard work, they are brother sports... you can't have one w/o the other

I'm not gonna lie, I don't quite understand most of these answers. I understand that there are preferences but to say one is harder than the other is just nonsence. I assume that if you even have to decide(ie you do both track and XC) then you're a distance runner and will run distance events in track. Other than the media you run on it is essentually the same, to be the best in either it simply takes the molecule by molecule transfer of rubber from your training shoes to pavement.
Some might say that one is harder, but the difficulty is felt by the entire field so therefore competitively factored out. After that it is just a matter of mindset and as a runner you should know how to take care of that.

when was the last time you saw a Championship Cross Country race won by someone who ran off the pace and out kicked everyone else to win ?????

I just like running... but I haven't had a full track season in three years... so since Cross treats me nicely and I love hills and the terrain changes and pushing past my limits I have to go with Cross Country. Even though the steeple chase is the coolest race here on earth.

Oh there is so much more. Have you ever run in the pouring rain or a sheet of ice. That is XC and that to me signifies a die hard runner one who doesn't just run or race in the nice weather in a controlled environment like on the track. I just like all the variables to deal with in a race.

XC!
You have your xc family, you get all the fresh air you want, no sprinters that complain because they can't run over a mile, you don't get as many injuries, you got your mud and free food, what else do you need, track makes me feel like I'm trapped and I can't go anywhere, I have to stay between these two lines or I'm DQed, I can't really go anywhere and have to stay for the whole meet which lasts for hours, you don't get your mud and when it rains the whole track is flooded. NO point to running in the rain, you don't get to know people as well and there is no camp to go to. I will run any event my coaches stick me in but my heart is in xc, I just don't get into track, I don't get why it is so short and they expect you to do so many races in a little amount of time.

I have to agree with "wmhstrack282" on that one we are team mates and we push each other during races like you wouldn't believe, and he has a good point in track people can see everything you do in cross once you go into the woods it's fair game and people come out and others don't what more could you want.

gotta go track...i find big track meets more intense than big x-country meets becuase people are constantly cheering for you in track while in x-country in most occasionns they cant even see you....i also like relays and waxthing my teammates run...and my big thing against cross country is you can run a faster time on one couse compaired to another but say its a worse race becuase the previous course was much easier....in track you can straight up compare times..and i actually enjoy long meets

Track by a landslide.Nothing is better then watching the 4x4 even though im not a sprinter. Cross country is pretty boring to watch unless its the end of the race. I just find watching pure speed more enjoying than watching a 5k.

Cross Country.

Track has my serious respect though. Just not as fun to me or motivating. Motivation plays a huge part in the races I run, and my every day work out rutines. Running a sprint as fast as you can with nothing focused just bores me, not to mention just drains you.

I personally think there are more things in a runner than speed or clocking your time down and marking every split. Not that track doesn't require determination, but it's a whole different level of it in XC. It's not over in seconds, or in a few minutes...you have to learn how to channel any pain you're feeling into motivation for you just to keep going the last couple miles. This requires alot of mental strength not every fast person has. You have to motivate yourself just to finish, not just to do it fast. In both events you train your body to be able to run faster, but in XC you also train your mind to become something totally different.

Besides. I feel like a cursed mouse in a exercise wheel when I run circles around a track...

Hmmmm.. that's a toughie.. I use xc to get endurance for the 400 in track.. but I use track to get speed for xc..During cross country season I want nothging more than to go to a track meet.. During track I constantly want to run a trail, to go back to doing miles upon miles of workouts..I like the team of "family" feeling of xc, but you can also get that feeling on a 4x4 team..But at the same time I like kind of warming-up, and getting ready for a race on your own, with the headphones on, listening to your favorite song preparing for your race..I'm better at track but I'm improving a lot in cross country..

I CAN'T CHOOSE!!

haha I'm with you there.....

Track is so defined, so elegant and perfected for perfection.....

Cross Country is so rough and rugged and tough.....

Track has wonderful consistency because you don't have to worry about roots/mud/trees....

Cross Country is great because "roots/mud/trees" is what mixes it up.....

Track you get to watch others run their races....

Cross Country you get to run with them....

Tracks are pretty much the same everywhere you go, which is nice....

Cross Country is different everywhere, which is interesting.....

I totally agree. Now, do you like running through woods or on grass more? I like woods alot more. Espetially if there are enough trails to get lost on. Then you can keep running till you get out. As long as your not in a race it is alot of fun. Playing hide and seek in the woods with your team is alot of fun too!!!!!

In track, nothing compares to racing someone around the final corner and down the last straight in the 1600. Track really helps me with my second mile in XC but running around in circles just isn't for me. I'm an outdoors person so I like to be out on the trails while training, and XC courses are much more exciting than the 400m loop during races. Also, at my school, the track team isn't close at all. I went through most of last track season without knowing most of the sprinters' names because the team is so divided into cliques, athletically and socially. The XC team actually has team activities, we go to a camp together before the season starts, and everyone on the team knows each other. We all do the same thing, some better than others, but it's still so much easier to relate to each other than it is in track. That's why I love XC more.

I don't think track is for people who are affraid to run at all. I think track is just better for people who are great sprinters(not like me). Cross country is more of a sport that any one can do though. Football, basketball, and other similar sports are great to do with cross country. You couldn't take a basketball or football or soccer player and put them in track and expect them to be the best. Cross country also has more people competeing. So if you end up near the back is wouldn't bother you as much cause there are people around you. In track though there aren't many people, so if you come in second to last or last, it hits you hard.

The statement "cross country is harder" is not true at all. Obviously a 5k is much mentally harder than the sprints but try telling any one who races 400 meters and up track is easy.

I think the races on the track are a lot funner and I just love the middle distance races they are so awesome especially the 800 lol and the 200 kicks butt too. Cross country is still fun and helps your endurance tremendously but I still have to go with track.

Nice, good statement and reasoning to support and backup your opinion. I still think track is funner though, It does kind of make me mad when football and soccer players do that b/c they are basically saying "hey.. oh well... i suck at football or soccer so im just gonna go down to a crappy sport and run... why not i can do that"....if they suck at the sports that they love then they should try and make themselves better... i just hate when ppl degrade track like its a "nothing" sport and they say that the only ppl that do it are wusses and gay and b/c we suck at other stuff( no we just love to run and we love the sport just like other sports!!)... when they have to no clue how hard we work.. same goes for xc, but i do like track a lot better b/c of the intense racing

Nobody's afraid (that's the correct spelling) to run in either sport. Think about your statement a little bit and you'll see why it makes no sense. If clicking off lap after lap at a steady pace and continuing to hit splits as the insane pain builds makes me afraid, then i don't want to be courageous. i'll just be afraid and suffer so badly that i have difficulty walking after a 5000.

The variety of races and field events make track great fun. For example, at USATF Nationals, you get to watch Adam Nelson take on Reese Hoffa - those guys get jacked up and it's awesome to see.

If you look at Track as that maybe, but if you take it on full stride and make it an adventure it makes the race much more interesting.

XC is great you get a good team feel, but when it comes down to it, there is nothing better then trying to pull yourself of the track after a hard work out. So Ihave to go with track as a slight edge over cross

Cross country is more fun i think in high school. During the 2 mile race in track it gets really boring. Running a cross country course doesnt seem as long b/c theres more stuff to see then just running in circles 8 times.

I agree with people who generally run the 2 mile on a track that it could get very repetitive and cross country's elements can take away that boredom; so the majority of distance runners will prefer cross country. But the majority of sprinters or middle distance will prefer track becuase thats where their speed comes into play. Running in circles doesn't become bothersome if you run less than a mile because you running 2 laps or less on an outdoor track.

I agree with everyone. I'm a senior in high school so I know a lot about track and xc.
XC is better if you like hanging with your friends on saturdays and playing football on
fridays before a meet :). But track is where your times reflect how good you are. An xc course can be 100-300m long, yes I have raced on courses that were 300m over 3.1 before.
Also courses can be hilly, uneven, they made you run through tall grass. But in track its
just you, your team, the other team, and a flat, smooth track, 400m.

I'm going with TRACK, you get to watch all your friends succeed. There is nothing better than watching your best friends run well in a race and yelling at them to suck it up and PR....In cross, you get atmosphere, scenery and cushion under your feet, but most of the time you have no idea where your buddies are....I enjoy being a spectator of the sport just as much as competing and there is more to watch on the track. Plus relays are sweet to watch. And nothing beats a close 4x4 to cap off a meet!

Definitely cross country! I absolutely love Cross! It is my favorite thing to do is run!

I love the different surroundings in cross and in track you just go around in circles.
I guess i also like it since we have won every meet this season except one. I have got a lot of medals from running.

Also whats the deal with people liking football so much I mean you dont get medals in football!!!! People make fun of you if you run and they think it is crap, but if something big happened in football it'd be a big deal!!!!!

I can't believe this string is still going after more than two years.....

But just to weigh in....Cross country is the true love. Track is great for a 1500 to 5000. Beyond that 12th lap, it gets repetitive and boring. Less than 1500, it seems like not much of a challenge (sorry sprinters). I enjoy interval training on the track, howeve. It's more quantitative, measurable and precise. You don't get that precision running on several different courses over the season. But again, after 3 miles, my head begins to go in its own little circles.

I've never run a boring cross country race, even when I've run the same ones year after year. I've been training on the same trails for 35 years, and I haven't gotten bored yet.

But the bottom line is they both compliment each other. Running cross gives you strength and stamina to take to the track. Running track gives you speed to take back to the grass and trails.

I originally posted that I like that better, but after this past xc season, I would have to say cross country. I think whether you like track or cross country more depends on how well your xc team is bonded. My freshmen year of xc wasn't that great, but I still had a fun time. But this past xc season was great because our team was so close, plus, we placed well at almost every meet. That made it a lot more enjoyable. But if I didn't have teamates like I had, I would choose track.

i love track. i mean, what better feeling is there when you finish a 100m on the track, then lace it up for the 1500m or the 3000m? I love sprinting, even though i'm a "distance runner" and track lets you sprint more often than just the last 200m of an xc race.

plus, i felt a better sense of camaraderie during track, with all the sprinters. we both respected each other's strengths and relied on that during sprint repeats or distance repeats. plus, being in hawaii, football has a more "family" sense than any other sport and they bring that to track, making us more willing to help each other because hey, we're family! (plus, i always got a creepy vibe from my teammates during HS xc.)

I always ask myself when people mention on how much of a team sport XC is compared to track, do you guys just not try and win meets or do well in relays during Indoor and outdoor? Or people who say their team mates are so much better in XC, at least where I run the majority of the good runners run 2 if not all 3 seasons. Also for people who say ALL you do in track is run in circles all I have to say is maybe you shouldn't do your long runs on the track. If you don't then you either do way to many races + intervals on the track.

Two Words...Conor Mcnulty this guy is a scottish legend.

A gb internatilist at the worlds in kenya, he was one the faves to make the euro team at the euro trials. During the race he was pushed shoved and called a scottish Cun*, so he took the law into his own hands and punched the guy sqaure in the face in front of everyone (the other guy was 5th in the world youths and was another fave to make the team) The guy was knocked cold, he got back up again ran a few steps and collasped! End of the race connor is whished away like a school child and nailed from the selection comitee. Didnt get in! the funny thing is he finished the race in 4th which would of giving him a place in the team despite knocking someone out.

XC easily. in track everyones split up doing their different events so the team isnt as close. its also annoying in track when all the sprinters call you insane for running a 400 or more. in xc everyones insane so its not annoying. and i think running in circles gets annoying after the 2nd lap

"thinking man's races"? I hope you're not implying that the steeple, 5k and 10k are men's races. I'll hold on the feminist rant, but I'll just say that the incredible toughness and guts it takes for these races does not automatically imply masculinity. If it does, then all those people I always thought were women tearing up the track in those races have been very good at deception.

XC and Track both have their positives and their negatives. I'm sure at least 50% of us (but probably more) have participated in both and I should hope this means that we have found the positives in both.

Cross country is nice because theres no particular time set in stone creating a hierarchy in the running community. There's not as much shouting of splits... successes and "failures" are not measured by some arbitrary number. How you feel about yourself before, during, and after a particular race determines your success. It's just you, a pair of spikes, and the trails. Track is nice for the complete opposite reason. The clock never lies. The clock is there to keep us on our feet. It tells us if we've taken a step forward, or if we've gone backwards. First place, or last place...in track you will always know exactly where you measure up against yourself.

I think it's important to listen what your heart tells you about a race(XC), but also have a way to give yourself a clear perspective, or a reality check(Track)... I need both.

But with that being said: So for now I'm going to go with TRACK! Ask me again in October and I'll have a different answer.

Run fast, turn left, repeat!... and enjoy it!

Ill have to go with XC. I like the longer distance and the endurance part of it all. The training is better and the team is more of a family than a track team. In XC your running for each other when in Track you still are but it does not feel like it as much. And running in a circle for a 16 or a 32 its not as fun as a 5K on a nice course that changes and is not flat all the way and the same thing. So for sure XC is a lot better. Track is off season training for XC.

It's kind of funny to read all of the opinions for XC based on how XC is longer, you just know they are HS runners(I'm not looking down my nose or anything). I can't help but think, just wait till you race a good 5k on the track!
I remember when I got my PR in the 5k I was clipping off 69s like it was my job(I wish). I was thinking, d@mn! I can do this all night. Then after 2 miles I realized I was wrong... Track is for the split junkies, those of us that get drunk off of nailing a pace. Also, as it's always been said, the 5k is the thinking man's race.

because if they had two seasons of xc it wouldn't be such an amazing sport. People would take advantage of it because there is two seasons of it and would just get bored of it like they do two seasons of track because it's so long and boring. Also because it wouldn't be call CROSS COUNTRY the second season because you would have to run it indoors and it would have to be called TRACK.
So technically there is three seasons of xc. One you run outdoors then the indoor one you run on a track then another outdoor one you run on a track again just so when you run the outdoor one "across the country" You wont ask " if xc is so good then why are there two seasons of track?"

I love the team, the courses, everything.
I love track, too.
But I did so much better in track.
I think it was because I dropped time throughout xc,

I'm hoping I'll have a great xc season this year.

I don't know what I'd choose...
probably xc because I love the girls more.

Cross Country. I love it - the courses are great and its more scenic. I live for xc. In track its just 2, 4 or 8 Laps of the same thing. Don't get me wrong, I like track too. But cross country definitley takes the cake.

I just started cross country a couple of weeks ago and its way funner. All you do in track is run around the track. In cross country, you can go as far as you want!

I had greater objective success in track back in my younger years, but cross country always developed the greatest friendships and the incredible joy of TEAM success in a situation where everyone on the team was experiencing the same trials and triumphs, physically as well as mentally. XC is also the sport in which I gained my first varsity letter as "new athlete", and was blessed with some amazing seasons and really great kids as a high school coach. Fall is also my favorite season.

Sports Illustrated had an article decades ago about cross country (believe it or not) which extolled cross country's embodiment of the "Thoreauvian values of simplicity, rusticity, and honesty." The phrase has always stuck with me and has rung true through the years.

Track is a great sport, but cross country has always been my favorite.

lmao woaaah.. let people have their own opinion. it's true when it comes to high school cross country which i'm sure you run cause the way you just completely freaked out on someone for no reason makes you look like a 5 year old.. that sometimes when people get into the woods they slow down or stop. being really dedicated to the sport doesn't mean you're gonna be amazing at it.. i've seen a ton of people walk in xc races & that doesn't mean they're not dedicated.. to run xc you have to be dedicated. it has people from alll over the spectrum. telling people to quit is just rude & none of your business.

exactly which makes xc so much more demanding, so much more fun, and so much more gutsy. You have to know when to go balls to the wall, its not look i have 400 more meters left better sprint it out

1. Track gets such a bum wrap. I love track completely and utterly.
b. Track is only less gutsy because people don't wanna push themselves as hard as they do in cross. The mile is, when run correctly, balls to the walls, spit in your face, murder me in broad daylight pain beyond pain. Any race no matter what distance can me incredibly easy or incredibly hard depending on the person's pain tolerance. No joke.
3. The 2 mile is, when run right, probably harder than the mile and cross country...not the 5k on the track.
5thly. I don't care what anyone says if you have walked in any cross country race YOU are not dedicated to the sport. Injury, illness, handicap, are exceptions.
7th Cross is amazing.
9. Track is amazing.
e. Both are equally amazing for different reasons.
and
Q. No one will ever win this argument. LOL

I'm sorry, but he does have a big point that you won't except. If you are honestly stating that you have never slowed a bit in a race because you cant hear crowds anymore or that you have never taken it a little easier up a hill than you should in cross, you are either in a league of your own or lying to everyone and more importantly yourself. He is simply and accurately stating that in cross you must run slower simply because of geographic conditions. That is the reason that there is a 5k on the track also and why everyone runs much faster in that than in the exact same distance in cross. Please don't freak out at least ask first for clarification. Also, "the rose that adores itself adorns the garden." Basically in all sports if you get better and improve so will your team. In essence it doesn't matter if you run for your team or yourself the points still go to the same thing.

XC is very fun within the team and the races are very dynamic and take strategy. But I personally enjoy track much more. I'm always craving pace workouts throughout the cross country season, and nothing beats passing someone around the last corner of the race in track, nothing.

I think it depends on what time it is. I love both, but by the time the end of Cross Country comes, you want to run shorter and fast in track, and at the end of track you want to slow things down a little bit and go longer. It's a never ending cycle. But I think i like XC better.

and track is good only in the 2 mile for me.

I'd have to go with Cross Country. It's more interesting and more challenging than track. You know what you're getting with the track (flat!) and you never know what you're going to get with Cross Country. Track may determine who is the best under ideal circumstances; however, cross country determines who is best under ANY circumstances.

It's hard to decide, they both are the greatest sports in the history of mankind. But they have their pros and cons, track you are able to keep track of your splits easier for each quarter. But it is very easy to lose track of how many laps you've ran and how many you have left to run. As for cross, you're able to experience new landscapes and there's always a different view, but sometimes it could seem like it takes forever for a race to get over with.

Having done both, I must say I enjoyed track more. Believe me when I say that I enjoyed both XC and track, and I did enjoy all the mud, shoving, and hills XC had to offer. That said:

1. I liked running on track better than grass, as it was a much faster surface.

2. I enjoyed the faster pace of the track events-I wasn't great at 5K, but I loved the 1600 and 800 in track. I personally liked the track workouts as well-anyone want 16 200s under 30?

3. While there is cheering in XC, I somehow liked it better in track-I had more teammates and fans cheering for me than running and they didn't have to brave the XC course to find me.

4. The quarter mile (although strangely I could only run a 57 at best). On a more serious note, there were more events to do in track, which I liked, as continually running 3 miles/5K got on my nerves.

5. Track brought the often hilarious sight of sprinters running JV 4x800 relays and the thrower's 4x100 relay.

I'm going to go on a limb and say that between outdoor and indoor track, I liked indoor track the best. The outdoor tracks had fresh air and gentler turns, but I loved the atmosphere in indoor meets.

Track or XC?

Why, of course, yes is the answer. It all just depends on the time of year as to why the answer reigns true.

It is often the lexicon, if not vernacular, that dictates the frame in which one thinks. So, to an 'either/or' question, I find it well within the realm to answer yes, particularly if there are multiple [i.e. three-or-more] given options.

It's just more fun that way, oval or variable course.
